The Day Of

Author's Note: Sorry I haven't updated the blog until now. I haven't been able to get my computer on the internet. So, here are three entries at once.

Well, I’m sitting here waiting to board as I write this. Travel is a funny thing. We do it for fun, but so many aspects of it are anything but. The frantic three weeks leading up to this moment have been a whirlwind of planning, calls, emails, internet research, packing, errands, bag weighing, and so on. Not everyone travels like this. Not everyone worries at every step. In this regard, I am definitely my mother’s son. The strangest thing is that I’m totally at ease when I travel with her. I guess she does all the worrying for the both of us. In any case, I’m feeling pretty nervous right now. I know that once I see Caitlin and Catherine that everything will be fine, though I also worry about our interactions. I’m sure we’ll get along, but I’m the sort of person that needs people to actively care about me. I know they do and will, but everyone shows it in different ways.

No pictures for today, but I did take my last ride. CO provided a beautiful 78 degree high for it too. I did a road loop. Parked in Morrison, rode south to Deer Creek Canyon, up North Turkey Creek Road to Evergreen, back down into Morrison. Legs felt ok, but I was really picking ‘em off on the Deer Creek climb. One guy (Curtis) in a Wheatridge Cyclery kit was a little hard to chase down, but totally cracked once I pulled up next to him and introduced myself. Staring at his zero gravity brakes and eccentric chainrings going round and round made me want to put the serious hurt on him…so I did. Made it back to the house around 2 to do last minute packing, eating, and showering.

Gary and my Mom brought me to the airport and sat with me for about an hour, which really helped to ease my nerves. Anyway, that’s about the whole story. I’m sure there will be more to tell once I’m in the air.
