The Day Before...Mud and Snow

After a frustrating day of errands, bicycle mechanicals, and getting lost, I finally made it to my new favorite trail (Thanks Reven) for a ride. Colorado sure knows how to say goodbye. It seems I found the perfect time to leave. Even the front range trails are snow-covered.

Today was a perfect mid-autumn Colorado day: 70 degrees with 6 inches of snow on the trail. That can only mean one thing...mud and snow. Though riding in snow is an artform all its own, riding in wet snow is also unique. First of all, the mechanicals aren't so much of a problem (aside from all of the water intrusion). It was so warm that my cleats never became frozen with packed snow. My cassette cleared itself out too! Still, it was slippery...really slippery. I was doing the front push/understeer move a lot. Though a good snow rider makes it look balletic, one must be truly violent to maintain momentum...think heavy metal.

Anyway, I ended up dirty, but my soul was cleansed. Hopefully, travelling will be able to fulfill a similar role for me. Check out the pics.

These pics are super-sweet-sexy. I like the one of the trees. I don't know why. I guess there's something kinda psychedelic about it.
